Steam hat nun den SteamVR Theater Modus innerhalb von Steam aktiviert. Mit diesem Modus ist es möglich, Spiele au der Steam-Bibliothek in einem virtuellen Raum zu spielen. Ihr könnt euch also nicht frei in den Spielen bewegen und auch nicht mit eurem Kopf die Perspektive verändern, sondern spielt in einem virtuellen Raum eure herkömmlichen Monitor-Spiele auf einer riesigen Leinwand. Wir hatten bereits vor kurzer Zeit über dieses Feature berichtet und konnten es jetzt selbst ausprobieren und wir möchten unsere Erfahrung mit euch teilen.
Alle Steam Spiele in VR spielen – Der SteamVR Theater Mode
Der SteamVR Theater Mode ist noch nicht 100% freigegeben. Aktuell muss man noch einen Startparameter in Steam-Verknüpfung hinzufügen. Dies funktioniert wie folgt:
Verknüpfung zur Steam.exe erstellen -> Eigenschaften der Verknüpfung aufrufen -> Unter “Ziel:” folgendes hinzufügen: “-vr2dgames”
Bei uns sieht die Zeile bei “Ziel:” so aus: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe” -vr2dgames
Anschließend öffnet ihr mit dieser Verknüpfung Steam und startet das SteamVR Tool (oben links auf VR klicken). Wenn ihr jetzt ein beliebiges Steam-Spiel startet, meldet Steam, dass das Spiel in einem virtuellen Raum gestartet wird. Nun müsst ihr nur noch auf “OK” drücken und eure VR-Headset aufsetzen. Theoretisch sollte es mit allen Headsets funktionieren, die von SteamVR unterstützt werden. Natürlich lassen sich die Spiele auch direkt über das VR-Headset starten. Dazu ruft ihr einfach die SteamVR Oberfläche auf und sucht das entsprechende Spiel für den Theater Modus aus.
Rocket League im SteamVR Theater Mode
Der aktuelle Raum des SteamVR Theaters ist nicht besonders aufwendig gestaltet. Der Boden ist aus Metall, an den Wänden finden sich eine Lamellenstruktur und vor euch ist eine riesige Leinwand auf der euer Spiel läuft. Ganz ohne Leistungsverlust funktioniert der Modus aber nicht. Rocket League lief in unserem Test mehr schlecht als recht, jedoch haben wir auch mit den höchsten Grafikeinstellungen gespielt. Broforce lief jedoch perfekt und machte sogar noch mehr Spaß. Das 2D-Bild der Broforce Welt hat klarer gewirkt als das “3D” Bild (kein stereoskopisches Bild) bei Rocket League. Dies liegt vermutlich daran, dass man bei Broforce nicht weit in die Ferne schauen will und somit die leichte Verpixelung des Bildes durch das VR-Headset nicht stark ins Gewicht fällt.
Die Latenz war in unserem Test in den genannten Spielen nicht spürbar. Etwas Latenz wird aber vermutlich hinzukommen, da Steam das Spiel in das virtuelle Kino und somit in die VR-Brille streamt, während das normale Bild über euren Bildschirm flimmert.
